Strengthening the Core: Cisco ASR-9910 Deployment and DWDM Upgrade in Frankfurt

Share

As part of our ongoing effort to expand and enhance the reliability of our backbone infrastructure, GNM is deploying a new Cisco ASR-9910 router at our Frankfurt node—one of the central network hubs in the European footprint.

This strategic upgrade enables us to:

  • Increase core capacity and prepare for continued growth in regional IP traffic;
  • Enhance performance and resiliency at the core network layer;
  • Support the expansion of IP transit and internet exchange (IX) services for partners and clients across Central Europe.

Key capabilities of the ASR-9910 platform:

  • Up to 1.2 Tbps throughput per chassis;
  • Support for high-density 100G and 400G interfaces;
  • Advanced features for BGP, MPLS, L2VPN/L3VPN, and traffic engineering.

In parallel with the router deployment, we are upgrading the DWDM segment at this site—modernising optical hardware and configuring higher-density, fully protected optical paths. This will enable us to:

  • Increase transport layer resilience;
  • Simplify scaling along strategic routes such as Frankfurt–Amsterdam, Frankfurt–Prague, and Frankfurt–Zurich;
  • Reduce latency and optimise optical routing across key transit corridors.

For our clients and partners, this means:

  • More stable IP and transport-layer performance;
  • Greater flexibility when connecting to major European PoPs;
  • Assured capacity growth as data demands continue to rise.

We remain committed to investing in the scalability and resilience of our network, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity across digital ecosystems throughout Eurasia.
